Dell XPS 15 review (2020): The ideal 15-inch laptop for creatives

Gambar
I'd wager you won't feel so bad about losing ports when you see just how fast the XPS 15 is. Our review unit featured Intel's eight-core i7-10875H CPU, NVIDIA's GTX 1650 Ti, 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD. You can configure it all the way up to the super-speedy Core i9 with 64GB of RAM. It easily trounced the Surface Book 3 in the PCMark 10 benchmark, especially when it came to multi-core testing (though the Surface's faster GPU gave it a leg up in 3DMark). And it kept up with the ASUS Zephyrus G14 and the Intel NUC 9 Extreme, some of the fastest PCs we've seen this year. The true test for a machine like this is real-world work, and it didn't have any trouble there either. The XPS 15 converted a one-minute 4K video clip into 1080p in 43 seconds with its CPU and 33 seconds with the NVIDIA GPU, which is on par with the powerful NUC 9 Extreme. Needless to say, it didn't have any trouble with my usual workflow, which involves juggling dozens of browser ta...

Forget Apple’s MacBook Or Microsoft’s Surface This Is My Perfect Laptop

Gambar
My living room is littered with technology. This is part of being a consumer technology journalist: you're constantly surrounded by things that need to be examined - and you're constantly examining those things. Like a forensic investigator whose lab is their dining table.  Technology crams my bookshelf, peppers my dining table and fills my draws. From my borrowed Motorola Edge and HTC Vive Cosmos, to my Microsoft Surface Book 2 and my partner's MacBook Pro. These mostly loaned devices come and go from my house, but there's one device that I continually come back to, that has unintentionally become part of the furniture: my Chromebook Pixel.  Or, more specifically, my Chromebook Pixel 2015. The five-year-old Chromebook has become the central gateway through which all living room internet activity - that requires a bit more dexterity than is offered by a smartphone - flows through. Firing off a lengthy email? Flip open the Chromebook. Doing some serious internet sh...

The first 5G laptop goes on sale in the US but is it a good deal? (On sale!)

Gambar
Update: June 18, 2020: The Lenovo Flex 5G is now on sale through Verizon. The full retail price is $1,399.99, or you can make monthly payments of $58.33 for 24 months. Check it out at the link below. Lenovo introduced the Flex 5G (A.K.A the Yoga 5G) at CES this year. The Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered laptop is now going on sale in the US through Verizon. Lenovo has also partnered with international carriers like EE in the UK, Sunrise in Switzerland, and CMCC in china to provide 5G connectivity to the 2-in-1 laptop. First to market as a 5G laptop, the Lenovo Flex 5G retains the familiar flexible, thin, and light form factor of Yoga notebooks of the past. It weighs just 1.3kgs and features narrow bezels surrounding its 14-inch FHD IPS touch display. At its core, the Lenovo Flex 5G houses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8cx 5G compute platform which is a dedicated PC processor and not just a reworked smartphone chip. It's clocked at 2.84GHz and gets eight Kryo 495 CPU cores. The best cheap lapt...

This MacBook Charger Hub Fixes One of Apple's Biggest Laptop Sins: Removing the Memory Card Slot

Gambar
Apple's butterfly keyboard will go down as one of the biggest tech blunders of recent years, but there's another egregious sin the company has committed against its MacBooks that hasn't been properly addressed yet: the elimination of the built-in SD card slot. There are lots of workarounds for the loss, but ElevationLab's new ElevationHub appears to be the least intrusive. When Apple switched to using USB-C ports on its laptops, the company also decided it was time to eliminate the incredibly useful memory card slots it had been including on many of its notebooks for years. One less component meant there was more room inside for other tech, and milling out that tiny slot on the side of MacBook housings undoubtedly shaved a few precious seconds off the manufacturing process. It wasn't as beneficial to consumers, though, as it once again meant that external hubs and card readers were accessories you had to keep close at hand for their inevitable use. The move gave birt...

The Lenovo summer sale offers up to $480 in savings on gaming laptop deals

Gambar
The Lenovo summer sale has just gone live, and we've spotted some fantastic cheap gaming laptop deals that are worth checking out if you've been looking to get your game on without breaking the bank. This $200 saving on a Lenovo IdeaPad L340 15.6-inch gaming laptop for just $779.99 is a particular treat for those on a budget. Somehow, Lenovo has managed to cram an Intel Core i7-9750H processor in there for under $800, which is absolutely ridiculous. It's also got a 512GB SSD, 8GB of RAM, and a GeForce GTX 1050, which make this is a high-speed little machine for non-GPU intensive games like Minecraft or popular strategy titles. If you did want to upgrade that graphics card, however, then we've rounded up some other excellent gaming laptop deals, including these Legion 5's for $899.99 and $939.99. The first Legion features a brand new Ryzen 5 4600H processor and a GTX 1650 under the hood, while the second Legion features a GTX 1660Ti but a slightly weaker Intel Core...
